While shopping a retail cooking store, I fell in love with the Krups FDE312 panini press. A bit of Amazon research, however, turned up a disturbing pattern of sudden failures in this product. Research into other presses from Cuisinart, DeLonghi, Breville, Villaware, and others failed to produce a clear front runner. It seemed that each product had one or more issues - non-removable grill plates, difficult cleaning, lack of grill ribs, flimsy handles, tendency to dry food, non-adjustable temperature, etc. Enter the Le Creuset 10 ¼" grill pan and panini press. You can submerge them to clean. They're coated with enamel, not Teflon, which means with proper care they will last two lifetimes (although they're only guaranteed for the lifetime of the original owner). There's no electrical element to burn out, no cord to store, no moving parts to break. Use is simple. Heat the grill on one burner (we have gas, but they're supposed to work with other technologies) and the press on the other. Wait until a spatter of water vaporizes almost instantly. Brush grill pan with some oil. Place sandwiches on grill pan. Pick up the press, brush on some oil, place on sandwiches and press for a few moments. Sizzle, sizzle. Wait until the cheese melts. Serve. The panini were just like what I'd eaten in Italy. I haven't owned an electric press, but I can't imagine they'd be better. Cleanup of the enamel surface requires a bit of care but, unlike every Teflon-coated product I've ever owned, that surface will probably still be there 20 years from now. And since the grill pan actually has sides (unlike every electric panini press I looked at), there was no side-spattering and thus no cleanup to do around the cooking area. The only disadvantage - the grill/press combination cost me $150, about twice the cost of the average electric panini grill. But since many of the grill reviews I read spoke of this being their second (or third) electric grill, I suspect I'll make my money back over the next 20 years.

I believe this is the best egg making machine ever invented. Every morning, instead of boiling eggs on the stove, waiting almost 30 minutes to an hour for hard boiled eggs, I stick the eggs into this egg maker and only wait a couple of minutes. My kids also love eating the eggs from this egg cooker because the egg cooker makes the eggs very tender, much better than stove top hard boiled eggs. It's also very easy for my kids to make the eggs. Henrietta also makes poached eggs as well as hard and soft boiled eggs. It's very easy, just add water and plug the chicken in to any wall outlet. After a couple of minutes, Henrietta makes delicious eggs for everyone. Whenthe eggs are done, Henrietta makes chirping sounds to alert then that the eggs are done. This way, I am sure that my kids are away from the stove, and are unable to burn themselves. I love this chicken because i don't forget about the eggs, and over cook them. I recommend this product to those who do not want to wait a long time for cooked eggs and those who love eggs.

I have always wanted a Swiss Army Knife, probably because I watched too much Macgyver. I ordered the Swiss Champ from Amazon (Which has the best bargain anywhere!) and forgot how big it was. When I got it I was kind of overwhelmed and knew it wouldn't be carried around in my pocket all the time. It is definitely more of a Multi Tool than a pocket Knife. So I looked around and it was a choice between the Ranger and the Craftsman. They are basically the same except that the Ranger has a corkscrew and the Craftsman has a Philips Head screwdriver instead plus the pliers. I really didn't find it necessary to have a set of pliers plus, most Philips head screws can easily be screwed in by a flat head anyway. The pliers would have added a few more millimeters and might have made the knife feel too wide. The Ranger is a great all around tool and not too big for my average sized hands.

This is an excellent item. Simple yet attractive design that is exceptionally functional. We have an odd shaped kitchen that requires a lot of "walking" between prep areas and stove/frig. We've tried square/rectangular islands/work stations but they seemed to get in the way more than help. When this came up for sale, I decided to give it a try since I like the round look and clean, convenient design.
Glad I did - this is a solid product, well built and very simple to assemble. Prefectly sized to roll from refrigerator to stove and elsewhere around the kitchen yet store out of the way. 30" diameter, very comfortable height and neutral enough to go with nearly any decor. The butcher blook top looks thicker than the actual dimension and is very attractive. All hardware is included with same stainless appearance. Locking casters are nice quality. The drainage bowl is included or may be replaced with a small kitchen bag - utensil/pot hooks, towel holder etc all come with it.
One of the unique features is a small groove that channels fluids away from foods and directly into the bowl/bag centered in the middle of the butcherblock top. It's hard to explain but is created in such as way as to appear decorative rather than purely utilitarian - although it is very utilitarian.
Nice heavy weight stainless steel legs, good heft to the butcherblock top...all in all a solid and very attractive unit. Came well packed with large insulated box - icludes all hardware needed for assembly. Excellent!

Wow, I'm a big fan of fried foods, homemade french fries especially fried in Canola Oil. I've used industrial restaurant sized fryers and worked from a stove top. This little puppy is probably one of the best little friers I've ever seen.
Most of the negative view of this fryer can be solved by simply reading the instruction booklet. Number one complaint, the cord falls off. Well yes it does, and that is by design. The cord is held into it's socket on the fryer side with a magnet. This is so you can unplug the unit without pulling the fryer over and burning yourself with hot oil. It's a common mistake, thinking the cord is broken. If you plug this in, attach the magnet end and don't move the frier, it will not come unplugged.
Number two complaint, the basket is flimsy and falls over itself. It does not do that if you install the handle correctly. You have to squeeze the two sides and slip the pins into two holes and under a tab - the handle will never ever move in this position.
Here's what I love about this appliance, it uses a small amount of oil - around a quart / liter. We don't have fried foods very often, and I don't cook a whole chicken at once. It's just perfect for those side dishes - appetizer mozzarella sticks, egg rolls, jalapeno poppers, etc. You can do chicken fingers, fish sticks, donuts in here. Food cooks evenly and quickly. Heat up time is around 3 or 4 minutes. Cooking time varies a lot, but can be around 3 or 4 minutes.
The cover is ingeneous - it closes down tight around the top and the basket so no splashing of oil happens. Cook on the counter top with no fear of splashing oil everywhere. The carbon filter shouldn't be cleaned every use, and it prevents splashes from coming out of the lid. The clear window, can see that oil will cloud that up over time, but it's handy to see inside.
Frankly, I love this unit. It's well built, solid construction, feels good in use. Cuisinart built a good small fryer in this unit.

I assembled mine using pressurized wood and exterior screws. The base is made with 8' 2x4's and one cross 2x4 added to the center of the base for stiffing. The verticals are 4' 2x4's. It works great.

I've cooked with, burned bone dry, and cleaned regular All-Clad almost daily for years so I am pretty familiar with its performance. I'm happy to report that this first Multiclad of mine performs similarly: boils quicker than regular pots with minimal hot spots, and cleans easily. [...]
Instead of going cheap or being a complete All-Clad copy cat, Cuisinart decided to throw in some improvements:
- Longer side and lid handles for cooler handling
- Brushed finish on exterior that goes about 3/4 of the way up hides scuffs
- Impeccable finish. Can't say the same for an All-Clad sauté pan which I payed full price for :(
- Better quality stainless steel? Maybe I just got a good batch, but the luster seems to suggest higher chrome content
Great offering Cuisinart! Keep up the quality and continue to be cost competitive vs. All-Clad and I will be back to supplement my cookware collection with Multiclad individual pieces. And BTW, this 6 quart is indispensable if you are cooking for 3-4 people.

This is a beautiful set of cookware and, I think, a great value...I paid $189.99 for 17 pieces, 15 of which are pots, pans & lids and 2 inserts..for pasta and for steaming. I like that there are 2 of the same size lid. You always get 1 lid that fits 2 items in the set and I would always use them at the same time and only be able to cover 1. No worries with this set--there is 1 lid for each. Also, I did a lot of price shopping before I picked this one and it's the only brand that calls it 17-piece and gives you all cookware. Every other set I saw that was over, say, 10 pieces-- the extra was knives or plastic utensils vs pots and pans. If it was 17 pieces, 7 to 9 of them were bowls, utensils, knives, etc. Rip offs for the prices they charged. And finally..the outside is nice and smooth, not ringed or otherwise textured...makes for nice cleanup and hopefully they'll stay nice looking longer than their predecessors. The ONLY thing I'm not thrilled with is that the lid handles do get warm...even hot. The pot and pan handles don't, but the lids definitely do. But for the price and quality? I have potholders.... Otherwise I would give it 5 stars. What the heck..5 it is!

This pan, like all the Cuisinart pans, is my favorite to use when I need a 12" skillet. It's a heavy-duty even-heating pan like it's "sisters and brothers"! If you already have any Chef's Classic pots or pans, the lid that fits on any pan with item number ending in 30 will fit on this pan. (Item number is on the bottom). With all the Chef's Classic pans, you usually don't have to turn the heat up as high as a cheapy pan; instead of high, use medium-high, for example. Since this does not have a non-stick coating, you'll often need oil for cooking. Here's a tip: hot pan, cold oil. Let the pan heat up before adding the oil. Also, these pans heat up FAST so watch your food! If anything gets burned-on badly, the pans just need a little soaking (maybe an hour, not overnight). Or, add water to the pan and "boil" the burned-on food off. I also use Barkeepers Friend cleaner to keep them shiny and looking new! Take note: if you've ever purchased a set of Cuisinart from a discount warehouse (i.e. Sam's Club, Cosco) there are not individual pans available that will match your set exactly. I called Cuisinart and found out that particular pan style is available only in sets from discount warehouses. BUT, the Chef's Classic line matches very closely, it's the closest match available.

This listing is sorely lacking in information. It doesn't say if you are looking at one stool or three for the price. The photo shows three. There are no dimensions provided so how does one know how tall or deep or wide these stools are? It looks like there's an opening in the seat. How large is that opening? There is no ask the seller a question link, otherwise I would have used it.
The seller needs to take down this listing and completely redo it. I would really be surprised if they have sold any stools at all from this listing. Now they know the reason why. Once they replace this listing with an informative one they are free to delete this comment.

What a difference this piece has made to our fireplace and our whole room. We had something that the builder had put up that had no design elements and looked more like an after thought. Now the fireplace really is the focal point of the room - in a good way. The finish is rich and warm and it was easy to put up - all one piece! I had to wait a while for it but it was worth it!

This has to be my favorite (non-espresso) method of producing good coffee. Vacuum brewing (often called siphon brewing) was very popular before convenience assumed more importance than the quality of coffee produced.
While lacking quite the grace and style (and "coffee-table theatre") of the Cona version, the Yama brewer carries a much smaller price tag. Though it is made of glass, the Yama feels quite sturdy and should be quite serviceable - given suitable care. If it breaks, the cost of replacement is reasonable.

The Cona has a glass rod/filter which is very effective, zero cost, and low maintenance. I do not like the idea of brewing through re-used, laundered cotton filters as provided with the Yama, so I use an old Cory glass rod filter (check out eBay) which works perfectly with my 40 oz unit. A simple wire grid is provided and works well with my electric smooth-top. The whole process soon becomes very quick and easy with practice.
Maybe I'll buy a small butane burner to achieve the Cona's "coffee-table theatre".

Drop the washable, reusable cloth covered filter into the infusion chamber with the chain hanging down into the glass siphon tube.
Pull the chain down until you can hook it to the bottom of the siphon tube.
Fill the bottom carafe to the 5 mark with hot water and place 5 measuring spoons of coffee in top chamber.
After about 4 minutes to heat the water, all the water is siphoned to the top chamber; allow 2 minutes to brew.
Remove from the heat source, allowing the coffee comes back down to the bottom carafe.
Remove the top, placing it in its convertible lid/stand, and bring the pot to the table for serving.

Hi, I bought one of Chen's non-stick woks like this one -- and gave it to a friend, so I could free up cabinet space to buy Chen's steel flat bottomed wok (for my electric stove). You are not supposed to preheat the non-stick wok too high, and never without oil in it. Well, to stir fry, you want to get it real hot, so the non-stick limitation defeats the purpose.
I've had no problem with Chen's steel wok without non-stick coating -- you just have season it with oil and heat following the directions. Then each time you use it, wash it in hot water only (no soap or detergent), dry it, and rub a bit of oil on it after each use. I've enjoyed using the plain steel wok a few times a week for more than six months.
Really, don't be afraid to buy Chen's steel wok instead. You don't need a non-stick wok.

A few years ago I tried stir frying and liked it, except that I used a Joyce Chen nonstick wok that peeled after two uses. After that I got a Lodge cast iron wok that was way too heavy and got discouraged and gave it away. Then I tried I a no-name carbon steel wok but was very ignorant about how to season it and could not understand why it kept rusting. Recently I have had the urge to try stir frying again and this time did my homework. I chose this wok because it was carbon steel, and this time learned ahead of time how to season it properly. This wok is also very sturdily made; you cannot easily bend the wok if you push on it; the handles are not loose; it is 2 mm thick; it has phenolic plastic handles that stay cool.
I have properly seasoned and been using the wok with no rust or stickiness. Learning how to season and clean made all the difference. A good education and a well-made wok are an unbeatable combination!!
See some of ther other wok posts for good seasoning tips. I followed the directions that came with the wok and had good results.

The Trudeau electric fondue pot is a triumph of form following function. Being electric it is very convenient to use and arguably safer than "sterno" units. It is versatile and can be used with cheese, meat or dessert fondues. Compared to others presently on the market, it has the distinct advantage of being the only one truly designed for all three types of fondue.
I tested the Rival and the Cuisinart. Both use direct heat technology, which is fine for oil or broth based fondue which require high heat. However, when you cook cheese or dessert you have use a low heat setting. Both units cycle between "on" and "off" at various intervals trying to keep a steady temperature. This creates either rapid boiling or fast cooling. Making a cheese or chocolate fondue with the Rival and Cuisinart is doable, but be prepared to be stirring the pot a lot to prevent scorching the food. The Westinghouse seems to be the same design as the other two, but I have not tried it.
As for the Trudeau it has several nice features. First, the pot is separate from the heating base. This means you can heat the pot in the kitchen and bring it to the table when ready. The heating surface is teflon coated for easy clean up. The unit is also more "upright" than the other electrics which takes up less space on your table, while looking darn good too. IMHO.
However, what gives the Trudeau its distinct advantage is the unique double boiler system where, when making cheese or dessert fondue, you fill the chrome pot with 20 ounces of water and insert a stoneware crock into the pot. The arrangement allows for even heating at lower temperatures which is essential for cheese and chocolate fondues.
For oil or broth fondues, the chrome pot sit atop the direct heat of the heating base as you would expect. Six better than average fondue forks are included along with a fork holder for the chrome pot to keep the forks from sliding around. Another nice feature is the patented electric plug which eliminates the guesswork of knowing which way to insert the plug into the base.
If you want one fondue pot to serve all your needs, this is the one to buy.
