Old Dutch 2 Quart Solid Copper Teakettle With Wooden Handle Review

(More customer reviews)I purchased this kettle based on the description that it was "solid copper" even though it came with a lacquer coating that would have to be removed before heating water. It looked nice enough when I received it, but once I decided to tackle the lacquer removal, it took much longer for the lacquer to soften (20 - 30 minutes versus the manufacturers statement of 5-10 minutes) and when I started to clean the residue off of the surface (again following the manufacturer's instructions) the copper started to rub off!!!
After contacting the manufacturer, it turns out that it is only a copper finish, not solid copper, and the description was a "typing error" on the part of the manufacturer (per their communication). If you want a functional copper kettle, don't buy this one unless you don't care about still having a copper finish once the lacquer is removed. The copper coating is so thin, it will rub off with only one cleaning!
I am returning it ASAP!

(More customer reviews)WARNING: THIS IS ONLY 1.4 QT (not 2.5 QT as both Copco & Amazon claim).
THIS IS NOT 18-10 Stainless Steel as Amazon claims. (even Copco admits in the
tiny-font "Kettle Care" insert that RUST will occur if ANY water remains).
Additionally, the phenolic handle can get VERY HOT (even Copco admits in the
tiny-font "Kettle Care" insert: "ALWAYS USE A POTHOLDER"). And, the handle
support/frame is cast zinc (again, NOT Stainless Steel) and subsequently will
corrode and/or oxidize to a dull/white appearance.
So, if you ONLY need a classical decorative item, this may be just fine at 15 bucks.
(the capacity of 1.4 QT is at Copco's own marked "MAX FILL" line, which, again,
Copco states in the tiny-font "Kettle Care" insert and is printed on the kettle front)
WARNING: at the erroneously claimed 2.5 QT capacity, this kettle will spray
boiling-hot water upon a contiguous area ~12" from the spout tip!
(Amazon really needs to 'clean-up' their numerous & growing product description
errors! As the world's leading online purchasing site, that should be Goal #1; in
a completely digital shop, that's our primary source of info!) (As for the vendor
Copco, don't know why they can't simply tell the truth!?!)
Finally, to quote Seinfeld, "What's the deal with all these teapots, anyhow?!"
(seriously, we've been looking for YEARS for a quality thang-to-boil-water-in-with-
a-spout-and-lid)

It has performed perfectly and still looks as new as the day it was purchased and given a home. Unlike other tea kettles I have owned, it has remained not only as beautiful but as strong as when it was new. Others I have had, have deteriorated in a short amount of time. I truly think this one will last a lifetime. I highly recommend it and how easy to be able to order it here.

(More customer reviews)Purchased this kettle back in December and have been using it ontop of my woodstove to humidify the air. First off, what's pictured is a bronze/gold colored handle; however, when I got it, the handle was actually silver. It was a little annoying, but it was no bigie for me. I bought this because it has a porcelain enamel finish so the inside would not rust (as opposed to traditional cast iron kettles without an enamel finish). Well, after about 2 months of use, it began to rust on the inside. I looked at where it was rusting and it appears the inside of the kettle was not completely finished in enamel (looks like they missed some spots in the coating process). Contacted the seller and the only have a 30 day return policy so I'm stuck with it. :( Too bad for me, but maybe not for whoever might read this review.
