(More customer reviews)The following applies to glass doors that have a fair amount of soot on them. Lately I have not been able to buy Rutland 84 Hearth and Glass cleaner in my area, it is a creamy consistency cleaner designed to take the soot off of glass doors with a little scrubbing. I've tried everything else available in our area including Rutland spray bottle (a liquid, not the same product as the 84 which is a cream) and four other brands that say they are fireplace glass door cleaners. I've tried white vinegar and wood ashes on a paper towel, which by the way works better than the other products but not as good as Rutland 84. Rutland 84 takes a few minutes to completely clean doors, the vinegar/ashes takes 10-15 minutes and you should take the doors off and lay horizontal (a pain!) and I don't think the vinegar is good for the door seal gasket. The other brands, including glass top stove cleaner, take a half hour of scrubbing and still leave a lot of soot on the door, they suck. I've had several types of fireplace inserts including my current Blaze King Princess, which is wonderful, but they all soot the glass after a week or so, without Rutland 84 I would not want to make a fire!!

Rutland Prod. WI-00710 Williams Stove Polish Review

(More customer reviews)Every spring I wipe down my insert and groan... this year I tried this stove polish and WOW. I know it says for unpainted stoves but I used it like shoe polish. Put a little on a rag, rubbed it on, buffed it off until the cloth came up clean. With a painted surface, I used very little but the stove looks brand-new again! It took ring marks off where I put my 'water dishes' and the wax marks where I keep a jar of candle wax for scenting the house.
I can't wait to visit Mom and the in-laws so I can do their free-standing stoves!
Update: October 2009 - First Burn.
I expected a nasty smell and there wasn't one. Just a little 'aroma' but nothing nasty. Over the summer, when dusting the insert, if I dusted lightly with a dry cloth it looked great. This week, I gave it a good buffing and it reactivated the product (the cloth was black) and looked all shiny and freshly polished again. The other two stoves we did also look great and I will put this on my list of MUST HAVE products. It's not fast and easy but the best things in life rarely are!

Lodge Logic Pre-Seasoned 8-Inch Cast-Iron Meat Rack/Trivet Review

(More customer reviews)First of all - it's Lodge. It's cast iron. It's American. These are all good things.
But I had to chuckle at a couple of the applications the other reviewers had for this handy little item. This isn't one of the first kitchen implements that you might put on your wish list, but it's surprisingly versatile.
Yes, you can put it in the bottom of your dutch oven, put your meat on top and let the fat drain. Yes, it's obviously a trivet. But I've also used it as a meat press - yeah, Lodge makes a couple of presses, and one of these days... but in the meantime, flip at upside down on your bacon and it works fine.
I've also used it as a grilled sandwich press. Put it on a medium burner, toss your sandwich in your skillet, or griddle, then (with tongs or welding gloves) plop this little trivet on top of your sandwich. A couple of experiments is all it takes to get the right amount of heat to brown the top of your sandwich. If you need more weight, put some water in a saucepan and set it on the trivet - the "legs" on the trivet keep the saucepan from cooling the trivet and your sandwich is nicely smushed.
But the weirdest use of all time? Olive pitter. No, I'm not kidding. I was making a salad the other night, and I wanted to chop some black olives into it. I grabbed a can of olives and opened it, only to discover that my wife had bought un-pitted olives. I hate pitting olives, but I started in, when my eye was caught by this little trivet and all those interesting holes. I grabbed the trivet, put an olive on end over one of the small holes and pushed with my thumb - the pit jumped through the hole and left the meat on the other side. I grabbed a bowl, put the trivet on top and went through that can of olives in no time. Hint - the holes are beveled, and the olives sit very nicely in the bevel, but they don't pit as well - turn the trivet over and use the "flat" side of the hole.
So there you have it. A kitchen gadget with half-a-dozen uses for ten bucks. How can you go wrong?

Emerilware 10-Inch Cast-Iron Square Grill Pan Review

(More customer reviews)I went through three non-stick, very expensive pans from the major players, and every time the story was the same. I would really like the pan until I used it about six or seven times, then the non-stick coating would wear off and they would stick like mad. This is because proper grilling can only be done under high heat, in a preheated pan. Doing this to a non-stick pan heats it up well past its tolerances, and destroys the coating.
So finally I tried a cast iron grill pan from Lodge. It was excellent, and took to high heat well. It is pretty hard to clean, the food sticks a bit, and the grill marks are not as crisp as I would like. Still, it was much better than anything aluminum.
When I saw this one, I decided to try it since I like my other Emeril pans.
It is even better than my other one. Interesting, as I strongly suspect these Emeril pans are also made by Lodge. The little tweaks he made to the pan are well thought out. The ridges are tapered such that they almost come to a point. The result is clear sear lines with no sticking. It is also heavier than my other pan, so it holds heat better, and has much higher sides to help contain spatters.
There is one thing to be aware of, however. This pan is smaller than its Lodge counterpart, so it is well suited to grilling for two (even if the things you are making are large). If you are doing more than that, it'll get a little tight in there. I keep my Lodge pan around for the times I need more cooking space, but I can see this one is going to get a lot more use as I normally do two things at a time anyway.
The first time you use it, spray it lightly with cooking spray oil inside and out, then put it on a high heat burner until it smokes. Turn the burner off and let it cool off on the burner slowly by itself. This will help season it a bit (even though it is preseasoned) and make sure that you won't get any sticking the first time you use it.
If you are even thinking of experimenting with grilling, get this pan and give it a try.

It also ended up being very useful at Christmas time for closing off the end of the room where the tree and presents were. The hinged sections, along with the fence's rigidity, make it very versatile in closing off larger areas. It is also the only fence we found that seemed attractive enough to leave up in our living room for a few years. (More customer reviews)Ordered Monday- unit was at the door Friday in spite of the Mid Atlantic blizzard of Feb 2010.
Unit looks just like the original Vermont Castings combustor and works just as well. I installed it immediately and am now again enjoying the double combustion heat output that the Encore stove is built to deliver.
It replaces a 4 month old bargain (not from Amazon) priced ClearSkies CS-200 that never worked properly- even after returning the first bad one for exchange.
I found the Amazon description confusing (mixing some text about a round unit in the description of the rectangular unit that I needed) so I called Condar and spoke to the Customer Service rep who was friendly and ensured that they shipped the right one.
While not inexpensive, the Condar unit is very effective and well worth the price paid.
Forget the bargains- this is the unit to buy- and it's made in the USA as well!

to other products this is very inexpensive, less than $0.30 a nugget. Some
products, like paste, blocks, and sticks are three to five times more expensive than the nuggets. Best of all they work with small wood for a
